In the central and southern interior of the country the geography is mountainous, encompassing the Central Dinaric Alps. The northeast parts reach into the Pannonian Basin and are predominantly flatland, while northwest is moderately hilly. The inland is a geographically larger region and has a moderate continental climate, with hot summers and cold, snowy winters. The southern tip of the country has drier Mediterranean climate with dominant karst topography. The highest point of the country is peak Maglić at the altitude of 2,386 m at the Montenegrin border. Major mountains include Bjelašnica, Igman, Trebević, Jahorina, Kozara, Grmeč, Vlašić, Čvrsnica, Prenj, Romanija and Treskavica.
